30Pearl Mixed Use Redevelopment

30Pearl is a 160-acre redevelopment area that is being transformed into a mixed-use, pedestrian-oriented neighborhood with regional transit connections and public spaces that benefit the entire community.

Defined in City of Boulder’s Form Based Code for Boulder Junction a pocket park with a “play” feature was required.  Rather than providing an off-the-shelf structure, the developer and the design team at Civitas chose to re-interpret play with a design suited for all ages. Drawing inspiration from the iconic Flat Irons, natural rock formations bordering Boulder’s west, the bench “Uplift” blurs the line between placemaking and play. By integrating tree and lower groundcover plantings, a series of stacked locally mined Lyons-buff sandstone rock slopes, and Thermory Benchmark Ash and Aluminum wood lounge-like seating elements, “Uplift” invites children to climb, run and jump, while providing residents a shaded space to gather!
